Yes, by GM and selective breeding. One of the biggest challenges now is drought tolerance. I was reading an article yesterday that talked about plants repairing themselves after being dehydrated. Some of the best plants for self-repair were the ones that scientists didn’t expect… so there must still be lots to learn about which genes will make plants more resilient =)
