Question: What is your favourite plant smell? I find their smell very interesting, I often sit in my garden alone and smell the bushes. Do you like the smell of all plants? I don't like the smell of tomato plants and roses. I am interested to know your answer. Thanks, for that.

  1. Haha that’s cute =) I really like the smell of cut grass and daffodils and jonquils. I really like roses, that’s strange that you don’t like their smell! =P Some plants actually smell like rotting flesh in order to attract flies to pollinate them ^^ like this plant Amorphophallus titanum:

And the Rafflesia arnoldii, a parasitic plant from southeast asia and malaysia:

Plants always have a reason for the smells they release, usually to attract pollinators or animals that will spread their seeds. Plants also emit certain chemicals so they can warn other parts of the plant that there is a predator like an insect attacking the plant. Once it is warned the plant can produce chemicals that kill or make the insects sick so they stop eating the plant. If you would like to read more about plant senses I would suggest reading “What a Plant knows” by Daniel Chamovitz =) thanks for the question!
